Lunch Program Survey results are in!

Hi parents - thank you for participating in the lunch program survey. We had 160+ responses and are grateful for all your feedback! The parent-volunteer committee + school have been hard at work finding a lunch program provider that meets as many of your needs as possible. At this time, we're optimistic we will have a program in place next school year, and we'll be sure to keep you updated as things progress. For now, we wanted to share a quick summary of the lunch survey results:

· The majority of parents would like to see lunch offered 5 days (39%) or 3 days (32%) per week. This includes Jimmy John’s and Domino’s Pizza days.
· The majority of parents would be willing to pay $4-6 per child/meal (63%); some (21%) would pay $7-8 per child/meal.
· The majority of parents would participate if it was cold lunch only (58%) with another 32% being unsure. 5% would not.
· The most important thing to parents when it comes to lunch is healthy food (66%); offered on all/most days (17%); budget-friendly meals (7%).
· The majority of parents would like to see Jimmy John’s offered again (56%). A little over a third of parents (39%) would like to see it replaced with another local vendor.
Family Summary of May Board Meeting
Get ready for summer, Grizzlies!  The May Board meeting was a busy one.  We started by receiving public comments advocating for increased communication with current and departing staff and families.  This coincided with several agenda items that provided us an opportunity to evaluate our own performance this year and how we can implement exactly those types of improvements.  As a reminder to all families, you can read about the board’s purpose, find our contact information, see our monthly agendas and minutes, and sign up for public comment at http://rmae.org/our_school/board_of_directors.
One item requires your immediate assistance.  We are still searching for a Community Representative to begin his or her term on the Board of Directors in June.  Please refer any interested and qualified community members who are not current RMAE parents to rmaeboard@rmae.org
We hope to see everyone at the end of year celebration, and then volunteering with the RMAE group at the Evergreen Music Festival!  Remember the Festival will make a significant donation to our Capital Campaign for the Den based on your volunteer hours, AND you get free admission to the fun.

Summer Camp at MEDLEN SCHOOL
Children who have completed at least grade 1 and up through grade 5 will have an opportunity to experience an authentic one-room schoolhouse in June at the Evergreen Mountain Area  Historical Society’s Medlen School located on South Turkey Creek Road.  Students will read from McGuffey readers, write with pen and ink, take part in a spelling bee, perform a part in a play, make hand-churned ice cream, make lemonade  with real lemons and participate in other authentic activities of early Colorado rural children.  There are two three-day sessions available: June 7-9 and June 14-16. The time of each  is 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m, and the cost is $30.  Registration  can be made at jchscolorado.org. Space is limited so parents are encouraged to make their reservations soon.
