Family Summary of August 12 Board Meeting
Welcome Back Grizzlies! The August 12 Board Meeting was productive. We received public comment from two parents encouraging a re-focus on advanced learning and differentiation, as well as an offer of support for a committee of parents and teachers to accomplish this. This is exactly the type of feedback and involvement that make our community special. Speaking of which, this year’s PTO is already getting back to business and accomplishing an incredible amount of service to families and teachers, as well as fundraising. You’ll hear directly from PTO throughout the year with details, but we just wanted to express our appreciation and encourage all families to participate.
Construction on the multi-purpose building, new student loading/unloading road, and playground are in full swing. Please pay close attention to announcements from the school about pickup and dropoff instructions as they continue to change to accommodate the incredible work-in-progress. Do your part, be patient. It will all be worth it when we have our gym and performance space! Of course the next phase of achieving that will involve significant fundraising efforts. Pitching in on the Capital Campaign is currently the best way to help your school. Our goal of $1 million will pay for outfitting the interior with things like basketball hoops, a stage, and seating. The Capital Campaign will undertake efforts such as corporate and local business sponsorship, events, and donor recognition. To assist email Kelli Anderson at [email protected].
Having met many of the goals of our last Strategic Plan early, the Board will be drafting a new Strategic Plan. Please send suggestions for five-year goals regarding Educational Excellence and School and Community Culture to [email protected].
Finally, the Board was once again required to attend to COVID safety, this time by determining the school’s safety measures for the year. These have been published, and we hope everyone will pay close attention to what is required and what is available. While we understand many were most curious to understand the masking policy, please take a moment to understand all of the measures. Clearly some will be disappointed by the outcome, and we want to encourage you to contact Jefferson County Public Health to voice your concerns. We find JCPH’s quarantine requirements burdensome, and that they conflict with the school’s and students’ best interest to keep RMAE open and students in classrooms. We must adhere to all available safety measures until the risk of closure subsides. Please familiarize yourself with this JCPH policy statement in particular and read how the details could impact your family: “Unvaccinated individuals (including all students, faculty and staff) who were unmasked at the time of their exposure are required to quarantine if identified as a close contact of a COVID-19 case.” Thanks for your active citizenship, and we hope this proves to be a temporary posture.
