A Message from the Principal

Hello RMAE families,

It’s officially the fall season!  The leaves are changing, it’s cooler and windier outside, we’re in the routine of school, and conferences are right around the corner.  Our student/parent/teacher conferences are on October 10th from 4 – 8pm and October 11th from 1 – 6pm.  You will be receiving a sign up from your child’s teacher and there are links in this newsletter.

This year our students will have a role in the conferences!  A portion of the conferences will be led by your student.  He/she will share goals, challenges, successes, and what skills are the current focus and why.  This process will give students an opportunity to show off what they’ve learned and also help them become more invested in their learning process.  In addition to the student portion, you will have individual time with the teacher.  We are looking forward to moving towards a more student involved model.  Please plan to bring your student with you to conferences.  They will have worked hard and practiced in class.  We look forward to seeing you!

Your Proud Principal,
Dr. Ann Hudson

Classroom News

Kindergarten - One of our first Core Knowledge units the human body, which we just finished.   As you will notice, the students each created versions of the human body on paper.  Each class studied the different body systems as we built them onto our paper bodies.  Students discovered the the different organs and how they help the body function.  The images you see below are the final result of the student’s two week exploration of the human body. We are looking forward to applying this knowledge to our next unit study of the five senses.

Elementary Art - Fifth graders working on their multi-media Aspen Trees paintings for the Original Works fundraiser which is coming in October.

Gardening Elective - Students getting their hands dirty in this fun elective!

Lego Elective -  Students have been able to build creations using their creativity and then tell their classmates the story of what they built.  The students, without prompting from me, created a race track for their LEGO cars.  They established rules for the course, a race order, and a method for timing their car speeds.
