What's new with The Den?
Exterior doors and windows are in, back sidewalk and the concrete pad for the HVAC coming this week, drywall is scheduled for next week and the covered entrances are in progress!
Your school needs all hands on deck to get us moved into a fully functioning Den by the end of the school year.  Here are some ways you can help:
·       Do you “know a guy?”  Please contact the RMAE Board Facilities Committee via Scott Jones at sjones@rmae.org if you are able to donate or arrange a donation in kind of trade work, materials, or other finishing steps.
·       Do you have free time during the work day?  Volunteer to call prospective business donors.  We provide the materials, scripts, list and tracker.  Sign up on the AtoZ Membership Toolkit or contact Janelle Herrera with questions at jherrera@rmae.org.
·       Are you a talented event planner, or just a willing volunteer?  Volunteer to plan The Den Fabulous Fundraiser.  This first of its kind RMAE event will be created in the vision of the planners.  This is a fun chance to really leave your stamp on our school.  Sign up on the AtoZ Membership Toolkit or contact Kelli Anderson with questions at kanderson@rmae.org
Elementary students will be caroling at the end of the school day the week of December 13th. Caroling will take place at the wood benches outside building two from 2:30-3:00pm. Parents are invited to attend and share in the holiday spirit! The performances will be split into the following three days based on grade level:

Monday, December 13th: 4th and 5th Grade
Wednesday, December 15th: Kindergarten and 1st Grade
Thursday, December 16th, 2nd and 3rd Grade

Parking will be available in the main lot, on the street, and in the dumpster area.
We hope you can make it!
Cozy Sweater Bears. 3rd grade art project of paper woven sweaters on bears.
Kindergarten is studying plants! We learned the different parts of a plant and flower as well as what plants need to survive. We also saw that different plants have different edible parts and got to taste roots, stems, leaves, flowers and seeds!
7th grade students are currently learning about the structure of the DNA molecule and how that structure relates to the process of DNA replication. Students worked in pairs to construct models of the DNA molecule.  Once all of the model segments were completed, the segments were all joined together to create a model of a DNA segment that was 88 base-pair segments long, and the model was twisted slightly to reflect the characteristic double-helix structure of the DNA molecule.
Since April of this year, a senior design team from the Colorado School of Mines has been working with Mr. Bryant on a project to modify a satellite to function as a laboratory instrument for use in the Middle School Science Classroom   Last week, eleven RMAE 8th grade students attended the public debut of the device (called EduCan) at the Capstone Design@ Mines Event in Golden, Colorado.  The RMAE students had the opportunity to meet with the members of the School of Mines Team, which included a former RMAE student, Mia Danato.  The device had been adapted to measure velocity, acceleration, GPS location, temperature, etc.  Most recently, it was used to track the  motion of a bowling-ball pendulum in the Science room.

Important Announcement for Parents of Walkers
Unfortunately after years of allowing our students safe passage, per the director and Rabbi of Congregation Beth Evergreen students are no longer allowed on their property.  Therefore students walking home or catching the bus will need to walk down the Royale Elk Way road to get to the bus stop or the walking path.  For walkers, an alternative is to go up Royale Elk onto and down John Wallace Rd.  For safety, please talk with your child about the importance of walking against traffic and on the side of the road.
