Colorado Charter Advocacy Network (COCAN)
As a parent of a student at Rocky Mountain Academy of Evergreen, you are a vital member of the Colorado charter school community. Because of the great options they often represent, charter schools are now serving over 125,000 children across Colorado. As a member school of the Colorado League of Charter Schools, we would like to encourage you to sign up to receive messages from the League’s Colorado Charter Advocacy Network (COCAN) to stay informed about issues that affect our school and the charter community. You can also text “COCAN” to 52886.
COCAN was designed to keep charter school parents and supporters informed about pressing issues impacting our school and to provide you with an opportunity to speak up and advocate for your child. The more charter parents are ‘in the know’ about issues affecting charter schools, the more proactive we can be and the better it is for our school.

Board of Directors (BoD) Updates and Information
Family Summary of April 8 BOD Meeting
It was great to be able to convene in person for the April Board meeting, it seemed to allow us to proceed through a large amount of business quite quickly and smoothly.  One of our major efforts this time of year is always budget work.  We approved an adjusted budget for the current fiscal year featuring increased state revenues and an incorporation of our construction loan funds and corresponding debt service reduction – all good news for the school’s long term  financial health.  We also discussed initial plans for the FY2022 budget, which will be voted on next month.  Based on more updates from both Dr. Hudson and the Facilities Committee, great progress is being made on the playground move, construction plans, and current improvements.  The Capital Campaign has been able to recruit additional volunteers to support the fundraising effort for outfitting the multi-purpose building, and we extend our sincere thanks to them for their effort.

Would you like to be involved in this type of strategic work and decision-making for our school?  If so, then please consider running for a 3-year term on the Board of Directors in our May elections.  For more information including instructions on becoming a candidate, please contact Board Secretary and Parent Representative Janelle Herrera at jherrera@rmae.org.  We welcome interest and involvement from any and all parents of current RMAE students.  However we are particularly hoping to round out the existing Board’s composition with some of the following skills and characteristics: a parent of a middle schooler, an attorney or other legal experience, a parent with involvement in other community organizations, a parent with technology related expertise, and/or a male parent to maintain good balance of perspectives.  Even if this wish list doesn’t describe you, you might still be a great fit, so please reach out to get involved!
RMAE BOD Safety Measure/ Protocol Reminder
If a student doesn’t feel well during the school day while at RMAE, they will be brought to the office where their symptoms will be assessed. If the student’s temperature is below 100.4°, staff will guide them into the clinic to be cared for until they are able to return to their class. If the student has a temperature at or above 100.4°, the student will be given a mask (if they don’t have one with them) and asked to sit/lay in the office isolation area.  Parents will be notified to pick up their child as soon as possible.  The student may not return to school until at least 24 hours after they no longer have a fever (without use of fever-reducing medicine).
RMAE’s Safety Measure/ Protocol Reminders are intended to support in-person learning and continued safety of the RMAE Community. They are in no way an indication that RMAE’s status has changed. Thank you for your support of RMAE.
