Board Memo – January 24

Board Memo – January 24
Posted on 01/24/2017

Dear RMAE Community:

Thanks to all who attended Wednesday’s Board meeting. This includes our newly appointed Board members, who we thank for volunteering their service to the Board: Don Middleton, Community Member, Gil Gomez, Parent Representative & Treasurer, and Jon Warner, Parent Representative. For those not in attendance, we would like to provide a brief update on the noteworthy discussion and actions taken at the meeting.

First, the final 2016-17 budget (viewable here) was presented to and approved by the Board for submission to JEFFCO. It was then noted that the Foundation has generously pledged substantially all of the proceeds of this year’s Annual Giving program to RMAE’s reserve fund. As of Tuesday, January 17th we had had 22 families donating a total of $19,701. With less than 10% family participation so far, we are poised to go well beyond the current goal of $45,000. Please remember to send in your donations or go online to contribute to RMAE – annual giving in support of RMAE is especially important this year!

Next on the agenda was discussion of teacher contracts for the 2017-18 school year. Dr. Stueven indicated that his goal is to give teachers an indication of their contract status by Spring Break, commensurate with anticipated enrollment numbers at that time.

Great News! The Board set Kindergarten tuition for the 2017-18 school year at $150/month ($1,350 for the year). This significantly reduced tuition rate versus prior years represents a substantial opportunity for us to encourage enrollment in our Kindergarten program and start to rebuild.

RMAE is beginning the search for its new Director. An Ad Hoc Director Search Committee was formed, with Board members Amy Broxterman and Christine Lindsay agreeing to lead the Search Committee along with Dr. Stueven and to- be-named teachers and parent representatives. The committee began its work this week, and there will be more details to come regarding the process and your opportunity to participate if interested.

Noteworthy updates from the various Board Committee reports include the following:

PTO: Merry and Bright raised over $6,000 and Original Works raised $1,800. There is a Movie Night planned for February 2nd, a few more teachers are needed to volunteer their classroom for this event – last time it raised $1,200 for the school!

Facilities: We do not need a boiler, which is great news for the budget. The Facilities committee will be sending out an email to solicit help for various projects around the school.

Marketing: Marketing has come up with a comprehensive marketing plan to help drive visibility of the school and ultimately increase enrollment.

Education Committee: The education committee had some great suggestions for the Director Search and Teacher Marketing.

Lastly, there was brief discussion about strategic planning for the school. Dr. Stueven was going to research resources for us to use and a working session will be scheduled at a future date.

In closing, we would like to reiterate our thanks to all of you for your ongoing input and advice to the Board in support of the school. We are so pleased with the amazing support and wonderful ideas that have been shared both in our meetings and individually.

Most Sincerely,

Your Rocky Mountain Academy of Evergreen Board of Directors:

Kyle Stults, President
Amy Broxterman, Vice President
Gil Gomez, Treasurer
Mike Geiger, Secretary
Jim Good, Parent Representative
Chris Lindsay, Parent Representative
Todd Crosbie, Parent Representative
Jon Warner, Parent Representative
Don Middleton, Community Representative
